The National Baseball Hall
of Fame contacted Francis Audio Visual with a request to
upgrade their media equipment and engineer a control system for
the Bullpen Theater in the Cooperstown museum. They use the room
as a movie theater in the Hall of Fame showing full-length
baseball related films. The room is also used for business
meetings by outside corporations, most of which require data
projection from their PC. The Hall of Fame also requested
integration of their six-channel sound system into their control
network.

For the projector, Francis Audio-Visual recommended the Sony VPL-X600U data/video projector
because of its bright 600 ANSI lumens and high resolution XGA
(1024 x 768) image. Installed in a rear screen format, the Sony
VPL-X600 was so bright, that the staff at the Hall of Fame found
room lights could be left on for better visual communication
during meetings.
The control system was required to
access and activate all components from a central podium in the
room. The challenge was to generate a system that gave the
presenter "easy" control over all devices
including the six channels in the sound system. We successfully
engineered the system using a Crestron
Control Network. A flush mounted color touch panel in the podium
provided access to complete functionality over source selection,
multiple VCR controls, slide projector controls, and all six
channels of the sound system. A 10" monitor was also
installed in the podium to provide a preview display of the PC
mounted in the podium. This allows the presenter to view data
images without turning their back to the audience.
All programming
for the Crestron units are done
in-house at Francis Audio-Visual and customized for each system
predicated on the users applications and equipment. Perhaps
most importantly, the system can be updated to accommodate new
equipment or additional products that may be added to the
conference room. This gave the Hall of Fame the advantage of
flexibility and an easy upgrade path. A feature difficult to find
in todays proprietary technology.
If you would like more information on the equipment used on this
project or if you have plans to incorporate a system at your
location please call Karl Paisley for a quote and to schedule a
site survey.
