The Syracuse Newspapers of Syracuse, New York have just taken a major step forward in their news department. Francis Audio-Visual was contracted to design and install a major upgrade to the new staff conference room. Completion of the project has been announced and presentations and communications at the newspaper will never be the same again.

The staff at Francis Audio-Visual installed Sony’s new VPL-S900U LCD data/video projector. At 1100 lumens, the staff can now view data presentations with a clarity never available at the paper. Two computers, (MAC & PC) are located in the room and can be viewed sequentially by the push of a button. The team from Francis Audio-Visual also provided an input for laptops from the conference table.

The room was designed to not only look good, but sound like a meeting facility should. True fidelity was obtained with Sound Advance Speakers. Speakers that disperse sound at wide angles and yet can’t be seen? It was hard for this reporter to believe, but it was true.

The most intriguing technology has to be the new teleconferencing system. Dial a number; contact an outside bureau; push a button; converse as those your colleagues are there at the table. How did they do it? Francis Audio-Visual used state of the art technology microphones and gated mixers from Shure. Best of all, the MX 202 mics are in the ceiling, leaving the conference table open for paper work and coffee cups. The mixed voices were routed through an excellent telecom interface, the Gentner GT724. With Gentner’s echo cancellation technology, Shure’s pristine microphone quality, and the fidelity of Sound Advance Speakers, communications at the paper took a mighty leap forward this month. Meetings also now be taped and replayed at any point, with the touch of a button.
