Onondaga Beverage installs state-of-the-are system
Onondaga Beverage Corporation of Syracuse, New York found their growing business in need
of a larger and more modern facility. Rather than relocate, they elected to construct a
major addition to their existing office and warehouse location. New offices and meeting
facilities called for new and progressive technology to be implemented as a new era in
business approached. The staff at Francis Audio-Visual responded with a comprehensive
design that embodied a state-of-the-art media presentation system.
The new
staff training room is terraced with installed seating for staff and/or customers. The
task for Francis AV designers was to allow twenty-eight laptop computer users to be seated
in the audience and allow a presenter to access and project any of their images easily.
The solution was derived by first installing custom plates for PC termination in pop-up
units in the desktops. Because of the distance to the control room, line buffers from
Extron were installed discretely under the tables for ample signal strength at the
head-end. To accommodate the increasing use of wav files with presentations, Francis
technicians also included stereo mini jacks in the termination plates. Once the signal
reached the head-end, routing of all sources was accomplished with an Auto-Patch 4YDM
matrix. The 4YDM handled not only the data and video signals, but also carried all two
channel audio tracks for both the data and video feeds.
A quality
projection image was required for the array of PCs. A Sony
VPL-X1000 was selected not only for its excellent 1,100 lumen XGA image, but
also for its impressive reliability record. A Da-Lite
Boardroom Electrol provided an excellent surface for the Sony
to show off the images from throughout the room. And of course what would a presentation
in the new millennium be without sound? TOAs IP300 stereo power amp was utilized to
deliver sound to four Tannoy Arena Monitor speakers installed strategically in the room.
Wireless microphones from Shure enable presenters to maneuver
around the room as they address the group. Feedback, normally an issue with wireless
units, was kept in check by Shures DFR11EQ feedback eliminator. If you are unable to
attend a presentation at Onondaga Beverage, a simple phone call and Gentners GT724 telecom interface gives the caller an
opportunity to still address the gathering (a feature appreciated by many apprehensive
travelers to the Syracuse area during our snowy winters).
With
all this impressive technology, surely operating the system must be complex? With the aid
of a control system from Crestron and custom programming by
Francis Audio-Visual, a simple touch screen was installed in the custom oak podium.
Presenters are given control over a majority of functions in the control room, including
selecting images from all data and video sources. Included in those updated video sources
was a new Elmo EV600AF document camera located in the podium used for viewing many of the
beverage products that the company distributes.
After some brief hands-on training from the staff at Francis Audio-Visual, the management at Onondaga Beverage began promptly the next day to utilize their investment. The facility stands as a testimonial to a growing and thriving company here in Syracuse, New York. Were proud to have been a part of the success of their expansion.
